I have a 97 Volvo 850 and I'm getting some kind of resonation
noise from the back (I think). I felt the exhaust, and there
is pressure from the exhaust pipe. It's just kind of a loud
hum and gets louder when the you accelerate. I have just
under 38,000 miles on the car.
To be honest, I am pretty disappointed with this vehicle.
The following things have been issues in the 6 mos. since
i bought it:
1) the above mentioned noise. incidently, when I roll down the
rear windows, the cabin resonates like crazy...anyone had this
problem? the car is under warranty and I'm having it looked at.
2) the stupid plastic piece under the radiator broke when i
parked too near a curb. my fault i guess, but what a stupid part
this is like $100 to replace, which i haven't done.
3) the ash tray self destructed, i don't even smoke. i put
my parking stub in it one day, and the weird complex cheesy
plastic parts broke...anyone else has this problem?
3) the silly little plastic part on the floor, left of the
drivers seat that encases the front of the rail that the seat
is one keeps coming off. i finally just threw it in the glove
compartment
4) the light bulb that illuminates the digital clock in the
dash board went out. i just got off the phone with a dealer and
the BULB is $150, plus labor to install which is also very
expensive. not covered under warranty. ARHGHGH!!!
5) I had to replace the pads and rotors to the tune of $400.
I knew volvo parts were expensive, but only sheeeeeeeeesh.
This car is really a disappointment. Consumer Reports rates it
pretty highly. I love the look and the Europoean feel, and it
will probably last a long time, but I feel I will be paying big
bucks along the way to keep the thing in shape. Any thoughts
on this? I am close to just selling the thing and going Japanese.
I really don't like Japanese styling/feel, but an Acura with this mileage
would likely NOT have ANY of these problems.
Any words of encouragement from 850 owners or has anyone else
come to this conclusion?
