Windshield washers S70 1998

Does anyone else out there have any problem with their windshield washers not working. Have 1998 S70 base model that I just purchased in Sept. Excellent car and love to drive it but the windshield washer does not work. I can get washer fluid to the hose prior to where it attaches to the plastic connector piece on the underside of the hood but that's it. I've tried cleaning the nozzles on the hood and that doesn't seem to work either. Is it common for these connector pieces to clog up? I had a 1986 740 also where the washer would not work. I would think with all the engineering that goes into these vehicles, that Volvo could make a windsield washer that worked reliably.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
