If the MAF doesn't do the trick, does your car seem to exhibit fuel starvation under heavy throttle? i.e, the motor almost dies?

If so, you may have the same problem that I did, which took forever to find. A piece of plastic hose going to the fuel pump in the gas tank had split open, so the pump couldn't supply fuel.

My mileage was down to 12.5 before we finally found this bad hose. What a pita!

Mr Norm, thank you. I've replaced and rebuilt everything and it has not helped, but actually I had a shop replace the fuel pump 2 years ago and it's been doing this ever since. It doesn't seem to be starving for fuel, but it does take a lot of cranks to start from cold. Is that hose in the fuel tank a volvo part, or an over the counter part. Thanks again.
