Today was a little warm for this time of year (50-some degrees F) so I decided to
change the brake pads in my V70T5. The job went VERY easily until I got to the last wheel,
which happened to be the right front. This is the one that had a balljoint failure
several months ago.
I had one pin (the upper one) that did not want to come out with the 7mm Alum wrench.
I rapped on the long handle with a heavy screwdriver handle but it did not break loose.
I put a bit of P'Blaster on it when I noticed the hex in the end of the pin was getting
wallowed out. I came back after a bit and held the alum wrench in the pin and smacked
it a couple times with a 3# hammer, which (MANY thanks!) broke it loose, so I
was able to finish the job.
Is this a common problem with these? Seems like the pin must be pretty soft!
I'll get a new pin for it next time I am in Tulsa. Meanwhile I didn't tighten it TOO tight.
