Engine Warm-Up: How Long? 850 1995

I was always curious - for how long I should warm up the engine? It is in the 20's in NY (-5 to -8 C) now. I know some people would idle cold engine until it reaches normal temperature (5-10 minutes!). Some people just start and drive. I usually run the engine for a munite or two when itys cold (below freezing). I am using regular 10W30 oil.
