The temperature today soared to 103 degrees. The A/C is not operational - windows were open. Driving into town (35-45 mph)after getting off the freeway (65-70 mph), the heater core ruptured. White smoke came through the vents, coolant poured onto the floor in front of me. Coolant temp gauge read slightly above normal. All this happened while at a light. When I pulled away to a nearby parking lot (2 miles from home), I noticed smoke coming out of the tailpipe...not from coolant, but OIL. When I got to the parking lot, the oil pressure light began flickering at idle, but went off when I bumped the throttle just a bit. I turned off the engine, locked up and walked home...having it towed home and will check out later today. Before leaving the car, I pulled the dipstick and oil filler cap...both are clean with no sign of contamination. About 200K. Prior to all of this, the engine ran great, with only a minor trans oil leak.
1) What caused the smoke & flickering pressure light? (Main concern!)
2) Is the core easy to replace?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you, Greg
