Catalytic Converter V70-XC70 1998

My 98 V70R needs a new catalytic converter. The one on it is the original. A new OEM will run me around $1200.00 CAN.(yikes). I'm toying with an aftermarket in the $200.00 - $400.00 range. Is this a good idea or should I go with an OEM? I've been told the aftermarkets won't last as long and getting them to connect properly can be a problem. I certainly don't want motor problems down the road after installing an aftermarket.
