Do K&N Air Filters Really Provide any Performance Enhancement? 850 1995

I have a 1995 850 Turbo.

Contemplating replacing my oem air filter with a K&N Unit.

I know these filter are nice/cool- but, do they provide any "objective" boost in performance ( i.e. can you feel it in the seat of your pants)?
