Engine Noise 850 1996

New Volvo Owner!

I recently purchased a 96 850 in really good shape from a dealer. All of the maintenance records were in order, and I even met the the previous owner and received all of the receipts for any work done during the car's life from him. The car has just had the latest maint. service done (including the timing belt)and runs and drives like new. The only thing I have noticed lately is a tapping noise from the engine. This does not happen every day, and tends to go away once the car has been driven for several miles. Sounds to me like the typical lifter noise I have heard in the past with other engines, but am not familiar with the 850 5cyl. Are there any service recomendations? A particular type of oil or additive that should be used to help? Is it ok to drive until next scheduled maintenace or am I going to do harm to the engine?

Thanks in advance for your help. I have really learned a lot from this site and the other links provided and consider it a great resource.
