I have a NA 2004 v70 with 250k miles and a steering rack leak.
I'd like to slow or stop the leak. I've flushed the fluid twice (with original volvo fluid) and it didn't help. I'm considering Lucas' stop leak additive but I don't know if it's compatible. I know there are horror stories about using regular steering fluid in these racks and ruining them. Along the same rational I'm thinking the stop leak products are formulated for regular steering fluid (not petroleum based Pentosin type) and will ruin the rack the same regular steering fluid will. I'm not ready to change the rack, and I don't want to add stop leak and force the project. Spending $5 a month on fluid is lot easier than $900 on rack replacement (rebuilt).
Is there a stop leak product compatible with steering racks that use Pentosin-type fluid?
