Key won't turn in ignition V70-XC70 2004

My sis has a 2004 V70 wagon. Four months ago she tried to start it and the key would turn part way up to the #1 position but no further. She messed with it, let it set, and after a while she tried it again and the key turned. No more problem until yesterday. Same problem. Messed with it and it finally turned. Same problem again today. Are the ignition innards dirty, a shot of CRC to clean things out, would that help, or is it the ignition relay which I have on my 850s but don't know regarding the later models? Or, could it be the electronic part in the key holder itself that is causing the problem? Dick
