Hello All,
I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon, with a manual transmission and with 340,000 miles on the odometer. For several months now I have noticed that when I direct the heat to the floor (versus the defrost setting) no hot air is discharged. Sadly, my feet remain cold. The flow of hot air seems to respond to all the other settings on the dial, with the exception of directing hot air toward the floor. I do not know if this is related to this problem, but when I turn on the fan (regardless of whether for a/c or heat), I hear a "whistling" noise coming from the vent system. Also, when I take my foot off the gas between shifting gears, it seems as though the vent system is shifts, because for a second or two when the forward motion of the car is interrupted, this "whistling" noise is almost silent, until I put the car in gear again and accelerate. I've checked to make sure the blower motor is properly secured and it is.
Any suggestions on how to gain back control of being able to direct the hot air to the floor of the car? Thank you in advance to all who reply. Also, the heater core was replaced approximately two month ago when it developed a leak. This problem of not being able to direct the flow of hot air to the floor preceded this replacement of the heater core and continued afterward.
