Help! Just bought a 1995 850 T-5 Wagon with 72K-very well maintained by dealer, orig owner, etc. Put about a 1000 miles on it with no problems at all. Today, I drove into work parking spot and put gear selector in reverse to back up a bit. Trans clunked into gear, but engine just reved-no backward motion. I put it back into park, then into drive, then back into reverese. Clunk as if it were going, but still no backward motion. No lights on dash, no flashing lights on Econ/Sport switch. Then I tried it a few more times and finally it goes into reverse and backs up. Weird. I go out to the car 10 minutes later and can't duplicate the problem.
I called a couple of Volvo repair places and they said it sounds like I need a new tranny. Yikes! I'm no stranger to Volvo's. Had a 940 Turbo for 10 years with not a single problem but this is my first 850 T-5 and I was looking forward to the ECU upgrades etc. I do most of my own work and can handle pretty much anything except electronic diagnosis stuff since I don't have the tools.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
