Sorry about that, I was going to get to that when I accidentaly posted after being distracted by a phone call.

As for the missing of the R, try having the automatic transaxle selector cable checked. This is supposed to be checked and adjusted if necessary every 10K miles or every 12 months.

Because it sounds like this is an intermittent problem, it could also be related to the ATF. Which is why I gave the whole shpiel on ATF.

But do go and have the automatic transaxle selector cable looked at by a Volvo tech.
