I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon. On the rear door, just below the rear wiper motor, is a black rubber strip that runs along the bottom edge of the glass window. It serves as weather stripping (Trim Moulding - Part # 9483520). It bridges the gap between where the bottom edge of the glass window ends and sheet metal of the rear door begins. It is approximately 36’’ in length. This strip has a piece of metal that is rubber coated and rigid. Over time, the interior piece of metal must rust, because the rubber coating starts to “bubble” up and the strip starts to pop-out of the crevice it is designed to fit into.

I have two 850 wagons, so I have replaced this strip before but it always a challenge. If I slide it into the crevice, I have to use a rubber hammer to “pound” it into place just as I get to the end. I run the risk of bending the exposed part of the weather stripping that has not entered the crevice yet. I have also used a plastic pick and “popped” it into place. I line up the strip so it is “dead center” and then I use the plastic pick to “raise up and push in” the edge of the strip that is designed to be secured by the crevice. I avoid having to “pound it” into place with a rubber hammer, but sometimes the strip is slightly crooked, instead of a straight line across.

I’m hoping that some one out there knows the “correct way” of installing this strip. I want to install it properly without resorting to my “cave man” techniques. Thanks to all who reply.
