Has anyone else noticed that their radio has become exceedingly hot after a couple of hours with the heat on? I don't recall this problem with the stock radio, though never checked. This came to light after I installed a Nakamichi head unit and in dash changer. While changing a CD I noticed that it was really hot. A small thermometer confirmed that it was 140 deg F inside the changer.
Upon closer inspection, removing the two side panels of the "transmission hump", there was a gap in the heater box of approx. 1/8" at a joint which was originally sealed with a black foam gasket. This was sealed with the handyman's secret weapon, duct tape (go Red Green), and there was no further warm air leakage. The head unit and changer still get just as hot.
The car still has 10,000 miles of warranty left, and the dealer is not wanting to get into tearing out the heater box. Should I push the issue? While not everyone lives in the North, (I'm in Canada, and BTW apologize if my conversions to standard units are out a bit), does anyone else have a similar problem with excess under dash heat, with the temp control set fairly high? I'm concerned that my investment of $1800.00 Canadian in aftermarket stereo is being baked. I didn't feel that they could be designed for that much heat.
