Will 225's fit on standard 16' rim 850

I was wondering if anyone has tried to mount 225/45/16's on the standard 5-spoke turbo rims. A friend of mine's father supposedly was able to get 225/45/16's on his 94 850t5 from sweden (self imported to the US) but the tire mounting and balancing place had to do something special to get it to fit. I was wondering if the 225's could be physically mounted on that rim, or would they be too wide. I've searched the archives and have seen yes and no. I don't think that I would be cornering sharp enough to rub the strut and according to www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html it is only .1" smaller than the stock 205/50/16's so hitting the wheel fender wouldn't be a problem and the speedometer would only be 0.4% to fast. (Speedo would read 60mph and you would actually be going 59.8). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and I would like the look and additional grip of the wider tire.

Thanks
Anthony Randall
1995 850t5 all stock (not for long)

PS: I would be buying the Kumho tires as I have heard only good things about them, and they are cheap. And why doesn't anyone make a 215/45/16.
