Thanks to the participants of this board, I felt confident about taking on some simple jobs like replacing cracked headlight lenses ($70.00 a piece from gapa.com - saved hundreds over installing the entire headlight assembly), new thermostat, repaired headlight wipers, etc. Now I am becoming even more adventurous and am considering doing my own brakes. How difficult is this? Haynes seems to have a fairly good discussion of this. I will need to get some jackstands - I've never done any jobs using jackstands before. Any advice on safely using jackstands, any particular brand of jackstand that I should consider. Do I need four or do I need just two. What is the recommended location on the car for placing on the stand.
One of my co-workers uses ramps for doing work on his vehicle, is this a good alternative to jackstands?
