850 ball joint 850

The two times I've replaced halfshafts on an 850 I couldn't separate the ball joint from the steering knucle clamp. I had to unbolt the control arm bushings. Anyone have any good tricks for spreading the ball joint clamp to allow it to be removed? Thanks.
