Drink holder broken again V70-XC70

Twice I have broken the flimsy retractable half circle piece oc the drink holder in my 98 V70 T-5 wagon. Not only does Volvo want an arm and leg to replace it, but it is wimpy.

Anyone come up with a beefier repair than stock parts?
