Here's a new twist on the A/C problems. The A/C comes on when the car first starts, and blows very cold - just like it did when failry new. After about 5 minutes, it stops cooling and blows outdoor air (the recirc switch is off) with a bit of a damp smell to it. If I turn off the A/C switch and wait about 5 minutes, then turn it back on again (without adjusting the thermostat settings or anything else), it blows cold again (for about five minutes again). OR, if I gun the engine to about 4k rpm, it comes back on!! Found this out accidentally while accelerating onto a highway. I doubt that it's a charging problem, because it seems to cool OK when it's on; it just won't stay on long enough.
