Hello,
our family owned Volvo 850 Wagon started experiencing what a lot of people here are referring to as the "PNP switch" problem.
We towed the car to a local dealership in the San Diego area just in case, because the engine light came on... well today the dealship called us back and said that the whole tranny needs to be replaced because the 2nd & 3rd gears won't engage properly due to a linkage problem inside the tranny. They said the grand total would be almost $3k. We refused the service and had the car towed back to the house.... took it for a spin around the block and there seems to be no problem now... ????
Two things: does anyone know of a reputable independent shop in San Diego area that does good work on Volvos?; is the tranny considered to be a weak link in these cars? Has anyone else had any experiences like this? (sorry guys, I'm an Audi person and don't really know anything about these cars).
Your feedback would be much appreciated... thanks in advance.
