I am still trying to trace the problem I had with a timing belt failure. I am wondering whether there may be a connection between the replacement of a thermostat and the failure.
After the dealer replaced the thermostat, the car ran VERY cold. It was running very cold when the serp belt failed, possibly causing the timing belt to fail as well. I had been driving for about a half hour and was going 55 mph at the time of the failure. Both belts were under 10k old. Since buying the 1996 854, I had it serviced at the recommedned intervals by the dealer.
So, is there any way that when they replaced the thermostat they did something that could have created the belt problem? The dealer that did the service swears this was a random act and that they have no blame. I have had mixed views on this and would appreciate any input you might have.
Thanks yet again,
