Hi all,
Our 1995, 850 turbo now has 90,000 miles on it and we are hoping to double or perhaps triple its life. I've heard the stories about the Volvo owners that have 200k plus miles on their engines. Just wondering if anybody could answer the following questions to ensure a long lasting engine:
1. what is the best oil to use to ensure a long lasting engine.
2. should I use synthetic oil? If so, what brand?
3. what oil change interval would you recommend?
4. what weight oil should I use.
On our last oil change, we switched from conventional oil to Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30. But I'm having second thoughts about Mobil 1 after reading a long thread on vwvortex, the volkswagen site. I've narrowed my oil choices to:
Valvoline Synpower 5w-30 or 5w-40
Redline synthetic 5w-30
Stick with Mobil 1 but switch to 5w-30 since we get cold weather in the winter.
Castrol Syntec
Valvoline max life (dyno oil for older engines).
Any advice would be appreciated.
