Glove compartment will not open 850 1994

I have a 1994 850 with a stuck glove compartment. It seems that the lever to open it has broke on the inside. Whenever I try to open the compartment door the lever moves fine but it doesn't unlatch. I took the panel off that is under the dash but the AirBag is there so that didn't help. What can I do to get this thing open????
