Replacing stock stereo 850 1996

Hi everyone. I will be purchasing a 1996 850 GLE this week from a friend. I was wondering if it is recommended and whether it is difficult to change the stock stereo. The biggest issue is the large opening it occupies and how to fill in the big whole after I install a standard-size deck. Will it look ugly with a big plate over the opening?

If this is a standard proceedure, are there any websites that have step-by-step instructions? Thank you for your assistance.
