If I get pulled over I'm screwed!! 850 1993

Since I've had my 850 the glovebox has always worked fine. The other day though I was dismayed to find that it won't open! At first I thought it was just locked. I was wrong. When I lift the handle nothing happens. Is this common? How do I get it open without damaging anything on the dash? My registration, proof of insurance/etc. are in there and I figure that if I get pulled over the cop probobly won't be too sympathetic. Any help here is appreciated.
