Timing Belt and 70K? V70-XC70 1998

So, is it true that my timing belt is going to snap because I'm at 71K? Is it also true that, if it does break, it'll cost a minimum of $4000 to repair the damage it will do?

How much should it cost (more or less) to have a shop replace it? Seems like this wouldn't be something I could do at home, but, for the sake of asking, is it?
