440 1.7i Engine same as R19? 400 1991

I am trying to get performance parts for my 1991 440GLE 1.7i. Someone has told me that the engine is the same as same (or very similar)to the Renault 19. Is this true? If so, can I use performance parts intended for the R19 on my 440? They will be cheaper and easier to come by.
