Hi,

I own a 1998 V70 GLT AWD w/ 2.4l light turbo. Wheels are 16", with 205-55-16 V tires (Michelin MXV4 Plus Energy)
(All OEM). I need to replace the tires since the fronts are badly worn on the outside, and am told by the dealers, (also in manual) that I need to replace all 4 to protect AWD components. This vehicle will be used as a family wagon, and driven pretty conservatively. I feel the ride is pretty stiff- especially over pavement bumps etc.

Would I get a softer ride, and not give up safety (tire strength, rim protection etc) braking distance etc. by going to an identical tire in the H rating? Also, although the Michelins I'm looking at both carry a 91 load rating,
the v capacity is 1356 vs 1279 for the H in the Michelin specs. Either way, they are both well over the vehicle wt (3754 lbs) + load limit (900 lbs). Is this a non factor, or does the higher limit provide a better safety margin for loading weight into the vehicle?

Should I stay with the V's for reasons engineered into the car?
(Seems that all newer base and GLT's use H's)

Also, is my vehicle's suspension the same as the base model, or did the 1998 GLT's get the T-5 "sportier" suspension, which is reviewed as being a little harsh by some.

First european- tuned car, and find the ride a little stiff.
