forgot to add that the reason they want to sell you four new tires on awd cars is that they are afraid of uneven tire wear.
unless your awd is selectable or automatic proportioning then it operates as awd all the time giving the same amount of power to both the front and the rear.
if you have new tires on the front and used tires on the rear then this may fool the awd and put an undue strain on the drive train.at least that is what i am told.another reason to rotate your tires religiously every 5000-7500miles.
