Salvaged volvos 850

I need help. I am looking to buy a used Volvo and I am looking at 850's in general. I found a shop in Rowley Mass that buys salvaged Volvos. The guy said that Volvo's can have the crumple zone removed and a new one put back on very easily resulting in a like new car. Has anyone heard of anything even remotely close to this. Any input would be greatly welcomed as there is not much information that I can find on the subject. Please help me. Thanks.
