With due respect for the opinions expressed in this thread, I would say it depends on the quality of the repair.

My '98 S70 was rear-ended by an SUV. The insurance company decided to repair it although the damage was so severe that it was virtually a total loss in terms of value.

Most everything from the rear quarter windows back was replaced and the roof panel/rails were straightened. The body shop had it for @4 months and I have had it back on the road for 2.5 years since. I would say that the car is as solid, quiet and mechanically precise as before the wreck. The trained eye will note that the spot welds were filled prior to repaint, so it doesn't look like a factory job. The respray was good although I have spent many, many hours perfecting the finish.

Whether it will hold up as far as corrosion resistance and structural integrity remains to be seen.

So, if the shop is experienced and dedicated you are probably OK with a salvaged car. OTOH if the shop is not dedicated to restoration of vehicles, you are probably better off avoiding a salvaged auto.
