I'm a student in North Carolina and I have a 1993 850 GLT with 115K. Problem: When I first drive the car in the morning or after it has sat for a few hours, it drives and shifts perfect. When the car warms up after about 15 minutes of driving, it feels like it starts off from a stopped position in 2nd or 3rd gear. It then drives fine at higher speeds, but each time I stop it again feels like its starting from 2nd or 3rd gear. There is no clunking or downshifting problems and there are no flashing lights or anything on the dash. (There is an occassional clicking noise like a relay or something coming from the glove box area, but the car has done this lng before the trans problem started two weeks ago. Thus I think the clicking noise is unrelated but thought I would mention it to fully inform) After the car sits for a few hours and cools off, it drives and shifts perfect again until warm. From what I have read by searching this site, this seems like the opposite of a PNP problem?
I took it to the local Volvo dealer and paid a good bit to have he trans fluid flushed. The dealer said if the flush didn't help the next step was to replace the transmission. The service rep said their dealership does not try to repair the transmissions. Anyway, the flush did not cure the problem. I've been trying to research this and called one Volvo specialist which suggested that I should try replacing the S1 and S2 solenoids before looking into having the transmission rebuilt? Any suggestions please? It just seems odd that the transmission would need to be replaced, particularly since it runs perfect when cold.
Much Thanks,
David
