What's with all the warnings about using ONLY Volvo Type C coolant?

The Volvo and Haynes have no additional info on this. What is it? Can I get it at Napa or AutoZone?

Also, my manuals don't have the correct spark plug gap in them?

Is there a better book than Haynes for my 850?

My car's been dealer maintained until recently when I moved, so there's a steep learning curve here.
