Auto shift inhibitor V70-XC70 1999

The auto shift inhibitor button seems not to click out sometimes when going into park.
This prevents removal of the ignition key which is obviously quite a nuisance. Working the shift and fiddling a little seems to free the buttton. Is there some lubrication or adjustment that will ensure that the button clicks out every time park is used?
