Snow tires 850

What's the big deal about putting snow tires on a Volvo, anyway? When it snows up in my area in Vermont, I don't bother with them; I just put the transmission in winter mode on my 850 and it goes through very easy. I can't see why some people blow their money on snow tires for even FWD Volvos; they're really not needed. I'd rather use that cash for my investment portfolio. See what I mean?
