It appears that many Volvo owners are beseiged by the problems w/Check engine light. My started out with the code for EGR. Then thereafter another code would resurfaced, and on and on. Meanwhile mileage got worse, noticeable loss of power, and even stalled a couple of times. After several attempts to squelch the booger, I told my mechanic (a European car Spec) to replace the EGR valve at the advice of an old junk yard mechanic friend. He ended up replacing the EVAP valve and everything has been fine since. It's been over a month now and no sign of the evil eye. I can't say the results will be the same for others but it's a good start.
Good luck,

P.S. I still misses my Bonnie, a 1981 745DL wagon whom I bought from an old lady w/80K 3 yrs ago. She didn't have one once of rust or rot and was in excellent condition. But her transmission begun to slip and so I've traded her in at 115K for the current gal(850). I should have fix the tranny.
