Sorry but both EGR valves and evap valves are just two of MANY reasons why one might see the ol' "Check engine light". Never a common, simple one part fixes all solution.

Now....I'm very curious about what I think is either a typo or you're not in the US as in the US, the 740s didn't come out until the '85 model year, not '81 so typo, really a 245 or ?
