I will need tires soon for my 2001 V70 T5 Automatic. Want to hear what people like in similar driving styles and conditions. This is the first car I've had with wider lower profile tires. Since tires makes a huge difference in the ride quality. I thought I check with others that had a bit more experience.
- Live in Seattle suburb. Wet roads are common. Reasonably good roads with no potholes. Snows one day out of the year and no body moves on this day (Seems us west coast cold climate drivers don't match the east coast/midwest warriors). So a tire good for dry+rain is enough. No need to move in snow.
- Although we have a T5, we really drive it pretty mild. No fast cornering. Highway cruising at 70-75mph. The automatic transmission shifts fairly early so it doesn't even get to the higher RPMs (~2400) with better torque during mild city driving (And we never punch the gas to find out) Some highways have groves in them from studded tires. These groves tends to cause harsher road noise and the tires tends to want to center on them.
Looking for a tire that is a smooth and comfortable ride, handles well for our driving style, minimize heavy road noise, hopefully long lasting, and don't cost an arm and a leg. I'm thinking to stick with the factory size 215-55-16 V rated unless there is some real good reason to change.
I sense a common choice is Michelin XMV4 Plus at ~$140 a piece. Do others like this tire with similar driving style and condition as me? Other tires that might fit?
Thanks in advance for all experiences and suggestions.
