Hi - I just replaced my front rotors and pads last weekend because my repair shop recommended it. I've spent plenty of money with the shop so I didn't feel guilty about saving $400 by doing it myself.
Anyway, I'm thinking about buying a dial indicator so that I can measure rotor run out next time. Can you measure the run out with the rotor still installed on the vehicle? Or do you need to remove the rotor and set it up on some sort of bench jig? Does anyone have a link showing photos of how they set up their dial indicator to measure run out?
Also, it seems to me I need to buy a micrometer to measure the rotor thickness. It appears the rotors are thicker on the most outer edge and thinner where the pads operate, therefor a caliper wouldn't be the best tool to measure the thickness. Do you agree? Opinions?
Thanks.
