Strut Bracing Affect on Ride V70-XC70

I have been told that adding a horizontal strut brace (between the top of the two Mcpherson (sp?) struts) will improve handling. My questions are: how noticable is the improvement, and will it affect the ride. I do not want to degrade the ride.
