2.4 N/A 10 valve engine (available in Canada only) 850 1996

My 1996 850 GLE (5 speed) has been fairly reliable over the years, only two major issues has been A/C and ABS which were both fixed under extended warranty. I now have about 175K KM.
Looking at the long term now, my Volvo mechanic has told me that the 10V engine is not as reliable or durable as the 20V engine. Is there any truth to that? Only issue I have and always had, is that it consumes oil between oil changes but falls under the "normal" guidelines that Volvo has set. I consume about 1 liter (one bottle) per 2,500 KM.
Anyone out there with the 10V engine (2.4 l)and your experiences?
