'96 850 Wagon- Tranny Stuck in Winter Mode

I am new to Volvos; I bought my wife the subject car last year. She loves it and I am very impressed with a lot of aspects of the car...but I must admit that I stay confused to the carmaker's logic (as far as controls, instruments, etc. are concerned) most of the time.

At the moment, it appears that the car's transmission is stuck in Winter Mode and I can't get it to reset, even after switching off the DC and restarting. I have tried rocking the Sport/Economy switch and also shifting manually between drive and the lower transmission settings.

Any ideas what I should do? We live in the (Deep) South of the US and I would rarely have a need for this mode; is there a way to defeat this function?
