Considering Buying a '95 850 Turbo 850 1995

I am considering purchasing a 1995 850 Turbo here in Auburn, Alabama,but I have heard some less-than-spectacular reviews about this model. The one I gave the most credence to, as it came from an import-mechanic, and which is dissuading me from the purchase, is that, due to the front wheel drive, the transmissions go out around 80K miles! I am interested in hearing what owners or other mechanics have to say about the maintenence schedule and cost (as for parts, mostly).
