My wife drives a 97 850 GLT wagon and I have not had any trouble with it, other than having to replace the check valve under the hood that sprays water onto the windshield and buying a set of clips to hold on the back door panel. I am considering buying a 98-99 V-70 GLT for myself. Am I throwing my money away by not buying another 97 850 GLT if I can find one with low mileage? I like working on the 850, but do the supposed improvements Volvo made on the V-70 and the attendant problems that went with it (e.g. ABS module), make it a better buy? The only complaint I have with the current 850 is the placement of the window switches in the center console. In the V-70 they moved them up onto the driver's armrest. But then they also installed a very cheap door latch, reminiscent of the one on the 240. I am 64 and plan to keep the car for at least ten years. I would really appreciate some good advice about which one to look for.
