BLACK TRANS FLUID 850

My transmission fluid is just about black. Pink? Heck, not in my ownership of the car.

It's a 96 855 with automatic. Have had it for 10,000mi (with the fluid like this the whole time). and no problems other than an -occasional- hard shift (even the hard shifts are smoother than some new cars). Heat has not been a problem, apparently. I know what a 'hot' trans is and as far as I can tell that isn't the problem.

Suggestions? Fluid level is OK. Per Volvo the fluid has yet to be changed. 106K on the clock.

Volvo did recently release something about changing after 90K in 'extreme' driving. Well, I live in the big city, so...
