I have researched the transmission issue in depth. Seems this is the problem with the Volvo/GM transmission. The transmission is the same exact tranny they use in the Cadillac's behind the 300hp North Star engines, the tranny is a great one but the problem is that the planetary gear assembly roller bearing's are failing and as they fail the metal chips are destroying the tranny's. The first thing you'll see from this is the solenoid inside the tranny go bad. For the incase if this where to happen, I did some further investigating on price for the transmission and labor!! The Dealer,,,$4100.00, a Volvo garage, $3100.00. Problem with this, besides price,,,same old tranny! My fathers friend (Former MMI Instructor, specalty,,,transmissions and present transmission technician)$1800-$2000.00 including labor,,,best thing besides price!!! The transmission will be upgraded with a better planetary drive system AND new, long lasting roller bearing's. The new and rebuilt tranny will last, in his words, in excess of 200,000 miles! Thought I'd pass this on! So far love the car and if anything goes wrong I know what route I need to take! Also, he suggested that the tranny be flushed every 30,000 miles and use synthetic fluid!!!
