intermittent brake squealing and abruprt stopping at low speeds !!! 850 1994

In the last two weeks my brakes have intermittantly begin to squeal. What concerns me is I noticed on two occasions that when keeping even pressure on the brake pedal, when the car was very close to stopping, suddenly something seem to seize up momentarily causing it to stop completely. Then it was fine.
It has done this twice in the past 3 weeks. Any ideas? I hope it is not the
Tranny seizing when downshifting. I have no check engine or abs ligts on Your
comments are appreciated.
