I have a 1998 S70 sedan. How do I Disable the alarm system (permanently) so that it doesn't activate? I do have remote locks. The dealer said something about turning the key in the driver's door a few times. Doesn't seem to work/ they weren't very specific about direction or number of times. Any ideas??? I'd like to leave it OFF for the vast majority of the time and very occasionally activate it. But I'll be happy with it permanently OFF because it's (to me)a bogus activation design.
I'd love to be able to disable and later activate (seldom) the alarm. From MY point of view it's a ridiculous system. The alarm sounds when the doors are NOT locked and then opened (after 2 minutes.) This means I always have to lock my doors. I live in a safe place and during the day my kids or wife or I have to occasionally go into the car. It shouldn't be a neighborhood nuisance. Bring half a load in from shopping, answer the phone, go and get the other bags BEEP BEEP BEEP.
Our 850 has a better set-up...the alarm is active when you lock the doors. If I'm concerned about theft I'll lock the doors (and activate the alarm)... if not they stay unlocked.
I bought the car used a few years ago and never knew I had an alarm in the thing. I bet the original owner had it disabled also. I found out yesterday when I had a new battery put in. It probably defaulted the alarm back to the original factory ON position. HELP.
